Who am I referring to? Kora Clark in Scorched Silence. Today was the first day she had a last name. She is my main lead. We shall discuss one of her decisions today. She is faced with a difficult one right now. The man who made her have to run away from the place she’d called home (reluctantly as she was basically prisoner, along with her best friend) has shown up at the place she is at now. You see she went through a little bit of hell to get there. She nearly lost her life among other thing (spoilers! lol).
Now she is here in this what can be called a nice place though in this new world of draachen (dragons) and Draachen (pronounced dray-kin, even in plural form) Hunters, it’s not exactly a lovely existence, but the humans are adapting. In this book humans are humans, but not exactly a history like our own. So it makes this more of an apocalyptic story. Or post I suppose. The draachen being the apocalypse? Works I guess. I just call it a dark fantasy and allow you as the reader to determine what is really is to YOU. Same as Stephen King does. He never considered his work “horror,” but the readers marked it as so so that was what he became. Forget where I read it. Might’ve been his On Writing book.
Anyhooo, I was thinking about the decision that Kora faces. She has this inner inkling telling her go! A red flag if you will, and she’s fighting it. Fighting it for reasons that are wrapped around her, and there at the place she’s building a home. Or trying to at least. She struggles. She’s been through Hell so in her mind (like we all may have at one time or another, I know I have) she’s partly thinking it is just the past creeping into her mind. Like, I’ve been here before and it is affecting what I feel. Which we know can be true.
So how does she decide what to do? Will she stay? Will she go? We shall see. I’m at the below word count and she’s gonna have to make that decision. IS she allowing the past to inform her current placement? Or is it a genuine warning bell going off that she needs to listen to?
Which would you choose? How would you?
