Beware the hellhounds who lurk in the shadows for they are so hungry, and you are so tasty.

Do you have a recurring nightmare?

I was talking with someone about nightmares. It was spurred by a meme I’d seen in a Stephen King group I’m in on Facebook. Since they were the last one I texted that night, I sent it to them and said to look at my last text. And no, sorry, you’re not gonna get what it was, haha.

We got to talking about the [horror] movies we used to watch as a child, then we got to talking about the nightmares we used to have. Then that led to recurring dreams that were frightening.

Do you have one of those?

I was telling them that the dream that I consistently had, which was anything near frightful was the continuous one about rats. Rats or ghosts. Those, for whatever reason, are my thing. Now, the rats one for me makes sense because I don’t like rats. Wild ones that are running about outside are a big fat no for me. Just, no.

The one I often dream about regarding them though is getting into the house. It’s usually that they’ve tunneled below the house, or they are breaking through the garage and then getting into the house. Sometimes I’ve dreamt of them where they are just really big rats that can’t be killed. Or they can’t be killed but they’re normal size.

Rats are definitely for me though, a huge recurring dream/nightmare for me.

I do get flying ones, falling ones, drowning ones, but that last one I’ve progressively taught my brain that no I’m not drowning, and I can still breathe underwater. So that when I do have those dreams, many of the time I do, I don’t wake up, and though it feels very weird while I’m in the dream, I can still breathe. I’m not as scared as I used to be.

Ghosts, if I have one with them, are usually grabbing me. When they grab me, I wake up. Not too frightful, but still, it is.

Do you have a recurring nightmare? If so, what is it? And do you know if something happened to you as a child that makes it come about, or is from something you fear in general?
