I did not have a nickname bestowed upon me (thank goodness), but I did pick one because of online communities. There was one called TinyTIM (it’s still around after 25 years!) where a bunch of us roleplayed and chatted. For a long time, I was a Dragonrider from Pern. Then on Halloween one year, we had an online party, and we all changed our characters (text only) for “costumes.” I was Kaa from Kipling’s The Jungle Book. I never looked back. I loved hissing and coiling and all the fun things I could do as a character without arms or legs. Almost everywhere I am online, I’m either Kaa or KaaSerpent.
Among certain circles of my friends, I will, in fact, answer to ‘Kaa’ 🙂
TIM was entirely text, so we wrote descriptions of ourselves and had all kinds of programming we could do so if someone took an action around us, we could autorespond, etc. I ‘hissed’ instead of ‘said,’ for example, because I programmed myself to add extra s’es and x’es and c’s 🙂
A bunch of us who were Pern fans built an entire area on the game that was a Weyr from Pern and roleplayed riders and had programmable dragons (who were also separate characters we could log in as) and fire lizards. We had hatchings and it was really fun.

Is THAT where it’s from. Kaa always seemed familiar, but I could never place it. I could’ve just searched online, but meh. lol
Ooo Dragonrider of Pern. That’s a good one.
I used to use Baby Girl w Attitude on Myspace and most places. Just saw a graphic with that name and I was like, “that’s me!” haha
