Kennedy’s feet stumbled one over the other as she landed. Anything but graceful. That was her. She almost fell onto her face. With a quick glance around at the solid black icy rocks around her, she knew: she had found him. It hadn’t even been in her mind. She wasn’t thinking about how to get here in any way. She just . . . came.
Or maybe she was led.
It was dark. And cold. And frightening.
The massive cavern was surrounded on all sides by sharp rocks. The face of it was angled into the mountainside to the point that unless you knew where it was, or where you were headed, you wouldn’t see it.
It was like walking into Hell. Except ice cold Hell. The walls that surrounded her towered above her. Her wings had instinctively disappeared, but the the pain in her back and side didn’t. With one hand, she rubbed the pain within her side as she moved further into the man’s home, and with the other, her shoulder.
